NATIONAL EVENTS

Each year RVAP recognizes national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). As part of this April observance, RVAP sponsors the Iowa City Clothesline Project and Iowa City Take Back the Night. Both events stem from international movements to address violence against women.

The Clothesline Project prominently displays t-shirts decorated by sexual assault victims/survivors and their loved ones to raise societal awareness of the war on women. Shirts are exhibited in schools, shopping areas and public outdoor spaces across the country and in five nations.

Take Back The Night is a march, rally and victim/survivor speak out intended to empower individuals and combat fears of violence. It provides a safe place for women and men to share their experiences with sexual assault and send a message to the community.
