STALKING AWARENESS

Join RVAP and the nation to recognize Stalking Awareness Month each January

Stalking is a serious - often violent - crime that affects an estimated 3.4 million adults each year. Many stalkers intimidate victims through threats, unwanted communication and assault.

  • 2 in 3 stalkers pursue their victims every day or at least once per week
  • 1 in 3 stalkers have stalked before
  • 1 in 5 stalkers harm or threaten their victims using weapons

Unfortunately, stalking can be difficult to recognize, investigate, and prosecute. Stalkers fit no standard psychological profile and conform to no single, fixed pattern of behavior.

Stalking awareness month encourages individuals and communities to educate themselves about this complex crime. It gives local residents, professionals and students the power to know, name and stop stalking.
