VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
RVAP volunteers have been an invaluable part of our agency since 1973. We seek motivated individuals who are able to offer their time and talents to sexual abuse victims/survivors and their loved ones. Please explore the many ways you can help:
Advocacy
Crisis Line Advocates: Offer support, information and referrals on our 24-hour local Rape Crisis Line and statewide Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline.
In-Person Advocates: Accompany victims/survivors of sexual assault to hospitals and law enforcement agencies.
Prior to becoming an advocate, you will receive 32 hours of training on sexual abuse, harassment, stalking, rape culture, suicide, domestic violence and related topics. Training sessions for incoming volunteers are held three times per year. Attendance is mandatory.
Advisory Board Service
Advisory board members oversee our agency and assist with program development. Those with skills in non-profit organization management, fundraising, accounting, law and medicine are encouraged to apply.
Indirect Service
Indirect service members have the opportunity to assist staff in many ways. They may present educational programs, plan fundraisers, provide office support or lend a hand with special events and projects.
Men’s Anti-Violence Council (MAC)
The Men's Anti-Violence Council is sponsored by the University of Iowa and the Women's Resource and Action Center. Members support, educate and enlist other men to help end violence against women.
